  [routing-wg]Feedback on RIS Routing Beacons

Author: Vasco Asturiano
Date: Feb 20, 2007 02:26

Dear Colleagues,

As part of the RIPE NCC's Routing Information System (RIS) service,
there are periodical BGP announcements and withdrawals of beacon
prefixes originating from AS12654. These beacons were implemented in
2002 to support the study of route-flap damping effects and convergence.
The RIS routing beacon address schema can be found at:
http://www.ripe.net/projects/ris/docs/beaconlist.html

Your Feedback
============
We would like to request your feedback about the beacons and whether you
find them useful. If you are using the beacons for any purpose, we would
like to hear from you about your project or research.

We are happy to continue to support the RIS beacons and fine-tune them
to users requests. We can also discontinue their use if the RIPE
community indicates that there is no longer a need for them.

Please send your feedback and any questions or comments about this to:
ris@ripe.net.

[routing-wg]Measurement data on transit traffic in IP routers?

Author: Chris Develder
Date: Feb 18, 2007 02:41

Hi All,

In preparation of a course, I'm looking for reference material (paper,
report, talk...) giving real world data on the amount of transit traffic
(ie. not locally dropped or added, but passing through to other
(backbone) routers) in a "typical" edge router of a core network, esp.
ratio of local vs passthrough traffic (is it 30%%, 40%%...?) -- I don't
need absolute figures, just realistic estimates of that ratio.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Chris
