I believe the standard elements are located in the Windows\Web\Wallpaper folder. The problem is not just that these files are not being displayed as background options (I could browse to them from the display properties window). I was looking for a means of getting rid of the hundreds of choices that somehow crept onto the list from my image folders. I haven't found a method of removing items from the list.
