... a linear, mechanistic view of the world to one based on nonlinear dynamics, evolutionary development and systems thinking. It is laying the foundation for a fundamental shift in how we view the world" http://www.hcs.ucla.edu/DoEreport.pdf Kauffman's real target is not the materialist viewpoint at all, but rather the reductionist stance -- the idea that everything can (in principle at least) explained from the bottom up, ...

this was the subject ot the keynote speaker at the Ninth Annual Nonlinear Science Conference at UCLA, although I no longer blame Newton exclusively for the "controversy" with Liebniz. anyway, apparently, Hooke did not "do the math" in a formalistic way; after all, he was the Royal Society's experimenter. the other part of the joke is that the '99 2-pound coin is inscribed, "On the shoulders of giants." on the edge; at least, Newton was...

... their company should be a corporation, a proprietorship or a partnership. Brown moved on from Disney to UCLA, the American Film Institute and a brief and unremarkable producing career, and then he teamed with a friend ...Hedenkamp. "I was intrigued." Hedenkamp examined copyright registration forms at the Library of Congress. He went to UCLA's archives and watched old shorts, noting the same title cards. He agreed: They revealed an excess...

...into posts from you (Androcles) or Spaceman or a dozen others. Your skepticism is good, but really misleading. You can no more say that relativity is 100%% wrong than I can say it is 100%% right. It is a mathematical model that fits the data and predicts results of experiments. It IS the accepted theory, and it is a shame that you try to steer people so far off. mK ps _ UCLA is pretty damn backwater, so maybe I should get a refund.

... C. Schuster, associate professor; and Jean E. Brenchley, professor, biochemistry and molecular biology, Penn State; and Sorel Fitz-Gibbon, assistant research molecular biologist at the Center for Astrobiology, UCLA, found that a large percentage of the microbes were Archaea, single-celled organisms that look like Bacteria but are different on the metabolic and genetic levels. The percentage of Archaea increases with depth...

The Druid traditions were preserved by the Filidh in their schools and their traditions as an organized part of Gaelic society until the mid 16th century CE (same for the Brehonshttp://www.humnet.ucla.edu/humnet/celtic/22papers/simms.pdf).
