...I would agree with that. But I'm willing to bet that if the producers of TAR & CBS had the choice between 6 Emmy wins in a row OR ratings in the top 20 for six seasons straight they would jump on the latter in a heartbeat. The better the ratings, the more money a show can pull in for the network which also benefits the pocketbook of the producers. OTOH, Emmys look good on the mantle and make a decent paperweight, other than that... ...

... is what we call 'referential transparency'. So conventionally a purely functional language is one, which retains referential transparency. Haskell and Clean do that. The former uses monads to carry state implicitly, the latter uses what's called 'uniqueness types', to disallow threading of certain values like the world state. This is not the same as disallowing reassignments of values to memory locations, because Haskell and Clean ...

I have 2003 Office Std. Edition. I cannot open new business contacts or existing ones in Outlook. For the former the message says: form cannot display; for the latter the message says: the custom form cannot be displayed, use a different form, and then the Contact form displays. How can I fix this? Thanks, John

... As I stated previously, Darwin's opinion is irrelevant, since he knew nothing of the mechanism of inheritance. Darwin's lack of knowledge is irrelevant, since a genotype is just the analogue to a phenotype, the latter being the observed phenomena which Darwin studied. And your argument is ad hoc - you believe in Darwin What does that mean, that I "believe in Darwin"? Do I believe he existed and devoted quite ...

.... The late Carl Sagan was among precious few visionary humans who shared the extraordinary ability to differentiate between deep thought and deep nonsense and recognized the persistence of a satisfying delusion to perpetuate the latter. Dr. Sagan wrote, "We go about our daily lives understanding almost nothing of the world. We give little thought to the machinery that generates the sunlight that makes life possible, to the gravity that ...

... on the Stern Gang and the Nazis. Readers should note that a few documents are not indicative of collaboration in and of themselves, but provide the background to others written in response. These latter do indicate levels of collaboration between Zionists and fascists, both the Nazis in Germany, and those in Mussolini's Italy. Brenner's brief explanatory notes at the beginning of each document are helpful, as ...

Note that it seems to work to compile codes directly from the source directory rather than to compile codes from the object-directory by using absolute paths to the source; the latter *fails*silently* for about half the codes. This kind of error tells me the authors are not serious about active work in a multi-compiler-configuration environment (e.g., I want to keep profile- or debug-enabled...

Sounds like the latter, because the experiment design is so lame and irrational. BTW studies in hospitals has already been done.
