Janeway was the closest "captain" we've ever had to Kirk and, for that, I will be eternally grateful for! ... gots boarded every other week by inferior species. How often did Kirk get thown off his ship? Kirk's Enterprise got invaded frequently. Kirk got thrown off his own ship more than once.

Conceivably, a return to the TOS-timeline might at this point occur as an independent production entirely under the control of the original cast, with Shatner hiring a big name science fiction writer to "rescue" Kirk. Such a classic scenario could then be adapted for the screen by one of today's top screenwriters, and maybe even directed by Leonard Nimoy himself. I don't really see what prevents this from happening, ...
