Also, LOTS of nice, sane people live/lived in the woods including myself, Grizzly Adams (do they have that in UK-adia?) and Henry David Thoreau (well worth the read and quite an enjoyable read at that), Laura Ingalls Wilder (another great read) and many more. HDT went a few blocks into town and had his clothes cleaned.   And I think he had a cleaning service as well.  Possibly ate out (not outdoors) or ...
