...me, I did a lot of this in my early years of XP etc. Google 'theme manager'. The theme manager I remember used to save all desktop icons, cursors, sounds, screen saver, and desktop wallpaper to a setup file. It would then allow you to restore that config. As you can see its not an install but a config file.
