The Kingsway Theatre (now closed) did the same thing for a while. Also, when I was in high school, some nut came out of the shadowy lower exit doors wielding and revving a chain saw during the screening of the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre - everybody flew out of that theatre like they saw a ghost.
