Dear mentors, is there anybody out there interested in scientific software? If so please have a look at libctl and meep which are uploaded to mentors.debian.net. As these are adopted packages, there should be not much trouble with them. Thanks alot and best regards Thorsten - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libctl - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian

Hi, I don't agree with your reasoning. Upstream recommends using the Debian package on their website (http://ab-initio.mit.edu/wiki/index.php/Meep_Download): "We highly recommend using Debian or Ubuntu, as in Debian or Ubuntu the Meep software and all of its dependencies can be installed simply by typing one line: [...]" So the removal does might annoy one or the other. Anyway I tried

Package: meep-mpi Severity: wishlist It would be very nice to have a version using Open MPI in addition to MPICH, as the former is growing in popularity rapidly because of its ease-of-use and clean new design. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6

Package: meep-mpi Severity: normal Currently, the meep-mpi package uses libhdf5-serial. However, the I/O in Meep's MPI version is much more robust, especially on clusters with distributed filesystems, if you use the parallel version of libhdf5. (The parallel I/O in Meep using libhdf5-serial is a bit of a hack, involving each of the processes writing chunks to the HDF5 file one by one

Package: meep Severity: normal We (upstream) have released a new version of Meep, version 0.20, which adds a number of features. Note that this release requires that you update libctl to version 3.0.3 (see bug #491356). It also should address #455289 so that no patching of the Meep source is required. Thanks for your efforts! The Meep upstream team really appreciates the work of the
