Savage Loses Advertisers
Wednesday, 23 July 2008 14:38

A group of seven Mississippi talk radio stations owned by Telesouth
Communications has dropped Michael Savage’s nationally syndicated radio
program over comments the host made last week suggesting that nearly
every child with autism was “a brat” of inattentive parents. “Michael
Savage’s comments about autistic children were beyond inexcusable and
are unacceptable,” the station group said in a statement posted Tuesday
on its Web site, supertalkms.com.

The "surge" hasn't worked. Nor has it failed.

Author: Siobhan Medeiros
Date: Jul 23, 2008 11:39

I was watching Lou Dobbs last night, and Lou said that it was "common
logic" that the surge had "worked", pointing to the fact that troop
fatalities had fallen to their lowest level in years.

One little problem though - the surge is TEMPORARY. And the bad guys
know it.

A year ago, experts were predicting exactly this sort of thing would
happen. That violence would drop, but not because the insurgents were
getting beaten, but because they were waiting the surge out. Why
spend resources and men to kill a soldier who's going to be leaving in
six months anyway?

So the real test of the surge is not whether violence drops, but
whether it STAYS down after the surge ends. So it's too early to say
the surge has worked, but it's also too early to say that it has NOT
worked. We'll have to wait a few months after the surge ends to see
what happens.

UK targeting Islam not extremism, says Muslim News editor
Posted: 2008/07/18
From: MNN

The British government Friday was accused of trying to interfere in the Muslim community on
religious matters by announcing controversial plans to fund a board of theologians to prevent
Islam being abused by extremists.

Muslim News editor Ahmed Versi said that the government was being "wrong-headed" as other
attempts to have control of a state-version of Islam had "no credibility."

"It proves that the whole strategy of the UK government is to target not just Muslims but Islam
itself," Versi said. "It is not targeting extremism but the Muslim community, including now on
matters of Islam," he warned.

Launching a new report on 'Preventing Violent Extremism: Next Steps for Communities',
Communities Secretary Hazel Blears announced the latest package of measures, including the
establishment of a board of around 20 leading Muslim scholars and community.

The board, whose members are yet to be named, will examine issues relating to Islam in a modern
context and how that fits with being a citizen in the UK, Blears said at Manchester town hall
in northern England.

  Joe Lieberman Must Go !

Joe Lieberman is a war hawk, plain and simple. He staunchly supports George
Bush's War in Iraq and John McCain's plan to stay in Iraq for 100 years. But
Lieberman's new alliance with the Republican Party runs even deeper. He has
endorsed and stumped for McCain, wants to be the star of the Republican
National Convention, and has even served on a 527 group that smeared Barack
Obama with a nasty attack ad.

And yet Lieberman still holds a top rank within the Senate Democratic Caucus
as chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. The
Senate Democratic Steering Committee needs to know just how much of a conflict
of interest this is. That's why we created Lieberman Must Go.

Islam to become Russia’s predominant religion by 2050?

22-07-2008

Pravda:

Islam is likely to become the primary religion in the Russian Federation by 2050 due to the
high birth rate in Muslim republics.

The current Chinese-led conquest of Russia’s Far East already seems to be a matter of immediate
concern for the Kremlin. The ethnic birth rate disproportion in different regions of the
country is another problem. The Muslim community may become the largest community by the middle
of the current century. Therefore, Islam has all chances to become the predominant religion in
Russia.

Ukrainian scientists of politics, Valery Chaliy and Mikhail Pashkov, believe that this is not
the only challenge, which Russia has to face nowadays.

“The Russian macroeconomic stability is being shattered with the high inflation rate and
growing food prices. Considerable funds are being invested in state-run corporations and are
being spent on social needs. Corruption restrains the growth of the national economy. Russia
dropped from the 120th to the 14th place among 160 countries on Transparency International’s
corruption list. Russian found itself in the company of Gambia, Indonesia and Togo at this
point. Russia takes the humble 58th place on the list of 131 countries on the integral rating
of the competitive ability of the economy for 2007.

Islam is currently the second most widely professed religion in the Russian Federation. It is
impossible to provide official statistics of "practicing" adherents of Islam or any other
religion in Russia...

DNC host's tax-free gas
Angry reaction brings a halt to use of city pumps
Daniel J. Chaconand Kevin Vaughan, Rocky Mountain News

http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/jul/22/city-gives-dnc-host-committee-pass.../

The committee hosting the Democratic National Convention has used the
city's gas pumps to fill up and apparently avoided paying state and
federal fuel taxes.

The practice, which began four months ago, may have ended hours after
its disclosure. An aide to Mayor John Hickenlooper released a
statement Tuesday evening saying that Denver 2008 Host Committee
members would pay market prices for fuel and would also be liable for
all applicable taxes.

However, Public Works spokeswoman Christine Downs told City Council
members just hours before that host committee members were fueling up
at the city pumps. The city does not pay taxes on the fuel for its
fleet, and Downs said the host committee would not either.

The disclosure brought immediate scrutiny. Colorado Attorney General
John Suthers said the practice "would seem" to be illegal and referred
the matter to the state Department of Revenue.
