Basic qualifications: BS degree in science related discipline in addition to 10+ years, R&D experience within consumer products, consumer healthcare industry, including 5 years working in scientific function(s) related to cleansers; oral heath care; or medical devices. Minimum 5 years experience of managing multiple projects in consumer products research & development. Specific experience in leading programs that have brought products from technical concept through proof of principle, scale-up & commercialization. 5+ years technical and formulary experience in consumer cleansers, preferably oral care cleaning products. This includes denture powder and tablet chemistries, as well as, toothpaste and dentifrices. Experience in other consumer cleansing areas will be considered. Experience of managing external collaborators and achieving results. Ability to complete projects on time and within budget. Computer Skills. Ability to be innovative and to identify novel solutions to technical and non-technical problems. Ability to work alone to progress individual responsibilities or operating within a team environment. Understanding of cross-functional roles responsibilities within Consumer Healthcare R&D particularly as applied to progressing projects to proof of principle. Preferred qualifications: PhD in scientific discipline Details: Reporting to the Director R&D, on the Denture Care (products include Polygrip, and Polydent,), incumbent will: initiate and lead applied research or technical evaluations on one or more assigned project. Manage and direct research in line with R&D and commercial category strategy. Identify and create new product opportunities and product improvements, which add value to the category, through internal research and the exploitation of external licensing opportunities. Work with the Category Team, Business Development, and Technical Licensing, to identify new product opportunities for the category. In conjunction with Medical, Clinical Operations, and Proof of Principle New Product Development group, design Proof of Principle studies and work to optimize product opportunities and claims for therapeutic effectiveness. Evaluate all projects and opportunities with a high degree of scientific rigor, and ensure the highest standards are followed. Stay current with scientific, regulatory and commercial developments relevant to the field of denture care. Manage multiple research projects, and delegate when required. Maintain commercial and competitive awareness to refine strategy and plans when required. Ensure adherence to HASAWA, COSHH, GMP, and GSK safety requirements. Write detailed and accurate scientific reports on the evaluation of new product opportunities, and when required, scientific position pieces on aspects of current products/ingredients. Balance pragmatic approach vs. pure scientific approach in best interests of the business. Champion ideas through to evaluation stage and challenge commercial opposition when appropriate. Publish papers in the scientific and medical literature in support of new product developments, or product defense, as appropriate.
