Description: Performs Software Development Life-Cycle (SDLC) testing a system used to generate weather modeling products from a next generation polar orbiting spacecraft. Duties include requirements analysis, requirements allocation/tracking/compliance, and system/acceptance test plan design and execution.

Responsible for development of performance specifications, and test plans and procedures. Represents the project at technical reviews, meetings, and inter-system integrations. This position requires coordination, organization, and communication skills both with the internal development team and external interface teams. Works with members of a diverse Development project team and participate in the overall design and creation of real-time, service-oriented software applications. In addition to verifying custom application development, the individual will periodically participate in the integration and validation of COTS products into the system. Must have the ability and desire to work as part of a team, to integrate changing requirements into the definition of the system is essential.

Follow a requirements based testing approach, whereby requirements, system behavior specifications, and test procedures are all iterated in synchronization through use of a flexible requirements and text database tool, DOORS. Capable of developing, documenting, and maintaining processes, methods, and tools. Work independently, applying ingenuity and innovation to solve a wide range of technical problems.

Skill areas include the ability to translate operational requirements into effective system specifications, the ability to anticipate the spectrum of possible consequences resulting from any external event affecting the system, the ability to develop procedures that test for proper outcomes to all events. Finally, key to ultimate success is the ability to conduct analyses with other team members and system stakeholders to retrofit un-anticipated test results back into requirements statements, system specifications, and revised test procedures.

The position demands excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as a strong system analysis and engineering background. An individual who instinctively takes a hands-on approach to get to the bottom of ambiguous situations, and who works cooperatively with other members of the team to clarify alternatives and chart an appropriate course of action.

Required Skills: Experience writing Use Case descriptions, or equivalent, to ascertain system requirements or express design specifications. Demonstrated ability to utilize automated drawing tools (such as provided in MS Word, and PowerPoint) to express design concepts and relationships between software components, hardware components, and system actors. Basic familiarity with hardware, networking, and operating system concepts. Ability to play liaison role between teams of interacting systems, and to write draft memos of understanding to establish documented agreements for design and testing. Experience in design and application of relational database systems, using COTS packages such as Oracle or Sybase.

Desired Skills DOORS, Visio, Perl, SQLPlus, bash, Synergy (CM/Change), JBoss, Java, AIX, and Red Hat Linux.

Education: BS in an Information Systems discipline. MS preferred.

Experience: Fifteen (15) years analysis, design, development, or testing experience requiring an overall systems perspective. Must include at least five (5) years direct interaction with stakeholders to ascertain system requirements, and at least three (3) years functioning within a multiple contractor environment. At least one (1) year must have been spent in validation of requirements and/or direct hands-on testing to verify system behavior. Must have demonstrated capability to direct the work of at least three (3) others working in concert to accomplish a task involving these areas. Must have experience writing technical documents.
