THe worlds most expensive train journey has just been announced after a
new contestant won the prize.

So what is this wonderful train journey? A trip on the Orient Express
in super ultra luxury class?

No, it's the LONDON TUBE.

After recent fare hikes if you take the shortest journey from Covent
Garden and Leicester Square, a total of 0.26km and 43 seconds, it works
out at 1.5 pence per metre as you still get charged £4 for going one
stop.

A trip on the Orient Express from London to Venice works out at 0.13
pence per metre making the London Tube nearly TWELVE TIMES MORE
EXPENSIVE per metre than the Orient Express.

That would be the non-geographical map that fails to represent such things
adequately, would it?

Because for years my wife used to get a tube to Bank then the drain to
Waterloo, unaware that she could have walked to Bank from her office. She's
not thick, she's not a tourist, but unless one knows an area and takes time
to explore it on foot *first* one never gets a feel for the distances.
