Neither my current car nor my previous had springs involved anywhere
in either the rev counter or speedo. In fact I doubt any modern car
does. The gauges are all electronically controlled stepper motors and
I really don't think that its too much to ask to get an accurate read
out of the speed of a rotating shaft which is all a speedo is doing.
