US attacked at food summit over biofuels.

Motorists who infest this newsgroup should be ashamed for using
biofuels.

"The US came under intense criticism yesterday for its policy of
promoting biofuels, which a senior UN official claimed was diverting
food away from the hungry "to satisfy a thirst for fuel for
vehicles"..."

"...The summit's host Jacques Diouf, director general of the FAO,
attacked western policies, targeting the US in particular. "Nobody
understands how 11 to 12 billion dollar a year subsidies in 2006 and
protective tariff polices have had the effect of diverting 100m tonnes
of cereals from human consumption, mostly to satisfy a thirst for fuel
for vehicles," Diouf said. He was referring to the annual cost of US
subsidies to produce ethanol from corn..."

"...A FAO document distributed yesterday said: "Biofuels accounted for
59%% of the increase in global use of coarse grains and wheat between
2005-2007, and 56%% of the increase in vegetable oils."..."

How does this differ from the copy'n'paste thread you started yesterday,
"Cut biofuel targets to feed the poor, leaders are urged"? Are you expecting
some great new revelation or different arguments from the other thread? Your
glib and frankly, rather pointless, comment is the same, so why should the
responses be any different?

Because Doug doesn't understand the facts as usual.

Well I'm not, it's doing me just fine and I've saved plenty of cash
doing so.

Unlike your ozone, there *are* two types of biofuels...

The US still exports more corn than it produces.

The US exporting corn has had harmful effects on the farming
industries of other countries so its not a clear cut solution of
getting the us to export more corn.

Bad harvests are the main reason for the current food crisis. While
biofuels don't help they are not the main reason for the current
problems and cutting them entirely isn't going to solve the problem.
I'd just like to make this clear in case anyone thinks they are a
bigger problem than they are.

Infest? Hypermobile? Killer motorists?
Doug, have you ever tried reading works on Complex Systems Theory? For
example 'A Thousand Years of non-linear History'? Or, if you must, then
'Chaos' by James Gleik (sp?). You might at least start to understand.

In general once Duhg has had a term used of him, he then repeats it ad
nauseam when discussing motorists.

Yes, he's that lacking in originality.

You have to be joking. Even going back to his Jupiter Ace article it's
clear he has never read anything about Systems Theory nor yet has he
read and understood anything about Systems Engineering.

Actually, Doug, people only became aware of being able to use bio-fuels
because your eco-mentalist mates started banging on about the evils of
petrol and how we should all be using bio-fuels, spending lots of time
and money lobbying governments pushing biofuel as "the fuel of the
future".
