You may like to know what the holdup was at J29. Some muppet in a
motorhome was towing their Smart car behind them. Looks like they
forgot to take the handbrake off the Smart and as I passed it, when it
had just set alight and they were there scratching their heads, both
rear wheels were well alight.

Fire must be the order of the day, as this morning a truck caught fire on
the M25 round J8, closing 3 of the 4 lanes. Thus the queue that build up
joined up with the queue you get every day around J5 to make a very long
tailback indeed.

Probably illegally. I was looking at the prospect of getting a spectacle
hitch to tow a car across Europe. As far as I can tell, despite the
willingness of companies to sell me a hitch suitable for vehicles up to
3-tonnes, it would be illegal to two any sort of car other than for
breakdown recovery because the vehicle (even a Smart) would exceed the
unbraked trailer limit.
Damned shame IMO.

I ended up with a smoking wheel hub myself this week. Caliper seized on
the trailer. Fortunately I noticed it and slowly dragged it off the
next junction onto an Industrial Estate I knew and called out the
fitters. Bottom slider pin on caliper full of crap. Disc was glowing
red when I pulled over. Fitter had it sorted in 10 minutes. Seems to be ...
