I will plead guilty (with absolutely no apologies proffered) to driving
into my driveway front end first and to taking the left turn (from my
usual direction of approach) widely - from the other side of the road,
or certainly from the other side of the median line.

What's wrong with either thing?

It suits me better to get off the road quickly when parking and to take
my time when emerging. Additionally, I have a hedgerow adjoining the
drive that would make opening the driver's door more difficult if the
vehicle were reversed in. I know my own business best and usually take
the view that others know their business best.
