I think DbDD would be a harsh charge to be honest. Careless maybe - at
least they weren't just drunkenly joy riding some nicked Cavalier, and still
only get a 6 month ban and a £100 fine. They did have a reason to be going
fast - obviously how good a reason you think that is is probably open to
fair bit of debate heh...

Why would it challenge anything? There are no facts at all in the story so
we cannot say what happened.

I was referring to a couple of attitudes...

"Plod can get away with anything!"
"Drivers can get away with anything!"

Perhaps they had time to test the device on the deceased's car before it
'collided' with the Police car so they can bring that up in evidence.
Interesting that the deceased's car is reported as having collided with the
marked car, rather than the other way round. Is there a clue in there as to
how the Police will defend their officers in Court?
