The Social Ideology of the Motorcar

Author: Doug
Date: Jul 1, 2008 09:39

The rabid motorists on this newsgroup are too blind and narrow minded
to understand how everything in our society is interconnected; no
doubt a result of their selfish, isolationist attitude. The motorcar
is a cancer of society. It is the root of most of our problems, yet
motorists just don't get it do thet? That's why they keep accusing me
of posting threads that are allegedly not transport related.

Guess what, zombies. Cars are not just a means of transport. They
pervade and corrupt our society so deeply that they have become much
more than that.

Next time, before you blurt out how far fetched my posts are, I
suggest you read this essay by the great philosopher André Gorz:

The more enlightended amongst you might finally see the truth, but I'm
not holding my breath.

Says someone who is too blind and narrow minded to understand that
society does not consist of one man imposing his will on others.

Says the man too scared to have friends.

I suspect that Doug Bollen is a fictional character who is played by
whole group of different actors. A bit like Bozo the Clown.

Whoever is behind the Doug Bollen franchise, they have used other
monikers apart from "Doug Bollen" in the past. Here is a post from
2001, by a certain "Mr Natural", that bears a striking resemblance to
your typical Doug post:

Probably due to the fact they use it to get to jobs they'd not have if
they had to rely on what was available locally.

Heh!

Look who's talking.
You fail to understand that if everyone was restricted to the levels of
mobility that you now find acceptable , the vast majority of the global
economy would collapse.
It's simply not possible to remove cars without all the interconnections
being badly affected
