The Petrol Strike

I came to this group hoping to see a sensible debate about the strike
- unfortunately it seems to be mostly back-biting and name calling.

Any chance of raising the game.

I assume that there are lorry drivers here and others associated with
the industry - I wonder what the real views are:

Is the strike justified?
Are the lorry drivers underpaid?
Should they be paid more than those shifting boxes for supermarkets?
Should they be holding country to ransom?

How dare you? This group is *entirely* about back-biting and name
calling - please withdraw your libellous statement.

All due to one individual sadly.

Indeed, as long as the said individual will allow it. He insists on dragging
any topic round to cars.

However the topic you've posted seems intent on stirring up trouble against
tanker drivers which will very likely result in more of what you're
complaining about in your opening sentence.

AIUI, their grievance is that they haven't had a pay rise for 15 years which
seems like quite a while to me. There was a time when they were very well
paid but their wages have fallen back to about the same level as
non-hazardous general work or even below that.

In most fields of work I suppose it's fair to say that specialised work pays
more than non-specialised work and Shell aren't exactly in a state of
penury.

As for "holding country to ransom", I'm afraid that's a bit too emotive to
answer.

No it isn't you idiot.

(Would you like the 5 minute argument or the ten minute one?)

The employers claim their wages have gone up by 27%% in the past four years.

No-one seems to be able to agree on what they actually earn. As to what I
earn, I don't actually know what my salary is because I'm paid in a
convoluted way designed to limit my tax liability but my nett pay for May
