Rapeseed oil was available in Tesco last few weeks at 56p litre, Lidl
at 78p litre, most cash and carrys at about 70p.
During the last two weeks the price has shot up by more than 50 %%,
doubled in the case of Tesco, the reason being given is that it's
unavailable wholesale.
Apparently there are too many people taking green motoring seriously
the normal supply channals can't cope.
There are so many people keen on saving our planet that they have been
mixing cooking oil with their pump diesel on a wholesale basis. The
effect of their urge to do the best for their environment has forced
the price of rapeseed oil to escalate out of control.
Since the price of mineral based diesel has passed 1,20 a litre
(around here at least) it still pays to nurture the environment by
buying overpriced vegetable oils.
Hopefully there will be a vast increase in farming and production to
ensure the drive to save the planet maintains impetus.

In article newsfe6-win.ntli.net>, Tommy says...
> crude oil hits highest ever level yesterday,
IS COMPLETELY WRONG. Crude oil hit the highest amount of US dollars per
barrel but that's got more to do with the value of the US dollar being
in freefall than its actual worth and the fact oil is traded on the
USD. A barrel of oil has not changed in value in Euros or GBP.

Conor (Conor hotmail.com>) gurgled happily, sounding much
like they were saying:

I think the appropriate answer is "IS COMPLETELY WRONG"...
March 2000 - $25/barrel = £15.80.
OK, that was before the Euro, but it was equal to DM51 (Eur26.1) or
FFr171 (Eur26.1)
Today - $113/barrel = £57.40 or Eur71.34
So in pounds, the oil price has risen 263%%, whilst in Euros it's risen
173%%. OK, that's not as steep as the 352%% rise in dollars, but it's still
a _tadge_ more than inflation.
FWIW, Petrol was about 77p/litre in March 2000.

I was referring more to the recent raft of prices in the last 12 months
when the USD started to drop.
Yeah, no arguing it's risen over the timescale you've posted but I was
trying to illustrate that the fairly recent rises of crude have been
more to the devaluing of the USD.
