"The car will lose in significance, and we have to move away from oil
and from modes of transport that hurt the climate. What this means in
reality: Our cities will change again. We are now experiencing the
passing of an era."
-Norman Foster, from one of the World's top architectural firms,
Foster and Partners, mastermind behind Abu Dhabi's carfree city
project of Masdar, on the future of cities. Translated from an
interview with ZEIT, on Aug.21.

Architects are very clever people, unfortunately IME without a connection to
the real world. There's four in my extended family, all very talented but
with no sense of reality..

That's not so much a factor of Foster's design, though, as of it's use by
a "Hitlerian Motorway".
I do know one thing - even if a cyclepath was available across it, I
wouldn't bloody fancy using it...!
(thinks: I wonder why Duhg's never complained that peds/cyclists can't
use the Channel Tunnel)

No, they can't. They've still got to use the train, and they're forced to
use a minibus and trailer to do so... He's moaned before about having to
load bicycles into a trailer behind a car for the Dartford tunnel.
To suit Duhg's requirements, consistently, cyclists should be able to
cycle through the tunnel, and pedestrians walk.

Indeed, perhaps a fourth tunnel should have been built for their sole use?
