I knew London was tackling this and its nice to see its spreading.
Anyone know how wide spread it is?

How long before they start to tackle the problem of drunken cyclists
so recently highlighted by Brian R....

Dunno, but, to be fair, it ought to also be applied to all other vehicular
road users.

Oh, it is, so that's OK then!

:)

Again, there _is_ a law against being drunk in charge of a vehicle, and a
bicycle is construed as a vehicle. Or, there used to be as I fell foul of
it many, many years ago in my misspent youth. :)

To the unobservant RLJ it seems we have summary execution by speeding
mobile phone users. There doesn't seem much point for nanny to get
involved.

Tell the court in Hampshire. They seem to think there is such a need.
But I'm sure they'll agree that you know better.

Tell what?
Good thing for speeding mobile phone user to get jailed. But I don't have a
problem with cyclists using their own judgement.

The old adage holds that when the driver messes up, the cyclist gets it;
when the cyclist messes up the cyclist gets it.

Even if their own judgment causes their death?

Weird...

Oxford has been taking firm action, but AFAICS it's costly to police
cyclsits red light jumping. If they see a uniform on the street they all
behave like good little boys and girls (i.e. they know full well that
what they do is illegal). So Oxford uses a combination of plain clothes
spotters, photographers and uniformed police located downstream of the
lights to apprehend the lycra loons.

I was amused to see the filmed reports of police arresting red light
jumpers near the Barbican. The psycholists lived up to their reputation,
trying to lie their way out of trouble, getting aggresive with police
officers and even trying to outrun the police (the police officer on the
bike was fitter than all of them). Not one showed any signs of being
contrite it was 100%% bluster and when that failed anger and aggression.
