Some years ago my parents ran a village shop/post office/fag
counter/booze store in a small Somerset village. The PO decided to
withdraw the support. When I went back, the village hall hadn't been
used for 10 years, the shop was now a commuter home, and the pub had
cries of "Ah, Tarquin, fancy a pint?". And the church was closed.
