As you say, a slow news day. ANd I think that this was potentially a *very*
harsh decision.

What looks like surface water around a millimetre in thickness can be maybe a
couple of centremeters deep if the road is rutted or sunken in one spot.
Anyone could make that mistake. I have certainly been surprised by the depth
of a puddle and the amount of spray (several times) and so (I'll bet) has
every other driver reading this thread.

The "argument" that the driver should have stopped and spoken to the drenchee
is, IMHO, childish. What's done is done (and it's happened to us all, as
well). Quite apart from the risks arising from confrontation, there would be
nothing useful the driver could do unless he carried a mobile hair-dryer and
a bale of clean dry fluffy towels in the boot. Perhaps there's an update to
the C&U Regs on the way.
