'Spy-in-the-sky' paves way for road pricing

I pray that this scheme is introduced asap.

"Motorists are being warned they may face "pay as you drive" road
taxes as ministers launch the first ever trials of a scheme that could
see them charged for every mile they drive.

The Telegraph can disclose that the Government is pushing ahead with
plans for a national road-pricing scheme, including testing "spy in
the sky" technology.

Eight areas of the country have been selected by ministers for secret
pay-per-mile trials which will begin in 2010 and are expected to pave
the way for tolls on motorways.

Motorists face paying up to £1.30 a mile during peak periods on the
busiest roads.

Gordon Brown was thought to be against national road pricing, a
flagship policy of the Blair administration.

But the detailed level of planning now underway indicates the issue it
set to become a key battleground in the next general election – which
is likely to coincide with the trials beginning..."

They do seem determined to lose the next election in style. Who are we
to stop them getting their wish?

It is just part of the usual bipartite cycle, which has little
influence on ongoing policy. Obviously something must be done about
the increasingly damaging mass car culture but what restrictive
methods are finally chosen by our masters remains to be seen.

Look, Duhg, it's simple.

You don't like the choices available to you at an election? Stand.

We've previously offered to get a collection going to fund your deposit.
That offer still applies.

Which particular "spy in the sky" would this be? GPS satellites don't spy on
anything. Such sloppy journalism shold be treated as contemptible as the OP.

Oh, and government lying (saying they were dropping their plans, where in
actual fact they were doing nothing of the kind) is hardly new or
surprising.

you should move to a more enlightened place, like Scotland.

Still if you insist on living in London with Boris in charge I've no
sympathy for you.

Oi! Leave Boris alone. I like him. He's so messed up he lets out things
he shouldn't and you get an insight into the thinking of the Cons.
