Told you so! So speed does kill.
"Motorists are sticking to the 30mph speed limit in greater numbers
than at any point in the last decade, Department for Transport
statistics have revealed.
Driving groups said that a proliferation of speed cameras and a series
of hard-hitting road safety campaigns were the two key factors behind
the stronger adherence to speed limits.
In the past ten years drivers of all types of vehicles have reduced
their speed but the biggest drop has been among car owners. According
to the DfT 70 per cent of cars travelled at speeds in excess of the
30mph limit in 1997 but this had fallen to fewer than half by last
year.
It was reported last month that road deaths had fallen below 3,000 for
the first time since records began in 1926. Motoring experts said that
a greater compliance with the speed limit had helped to reduce road
fatalities..."

Fuck all to do with speed cameras or speed and more to do with advances
in road safety, vehicle design, driver training and medical procedures.

No it doesn't, driving like a cunt kills. Driving while suffering from
ineptitude kills.

So what? I could drive down my road and stick to 30mph; doing so with my
eyes closed doesn't mean it is safe does it? How about at the top end of
the street where there are always loads of cars parked on the roadside
and the road curve doesn't help with visibility, does it mean cruising
through there at 30mph is safe? No it does not. How about the wanker who
tailgated me all the way along my street because I was doing 30mph (or
less, where required); he was doing 30mph too, does that mean he was safe?
Due to the number of nobheads driving inappropriately down the street
(and getting it wrong, ending up in gardens, the side of a garage, and
into someone's front porch for example) the council have decided to
implement traffic calming measures.

And congestion. It's hard to break the speed limit when you're stuck
in a queue. But I rarely see anyone sticking to the limit on clear
roads, other than in the vicinity of cameras.

Are you claiming we'll see a dramatic reduction in this years RTA KSI

Yes, because of congestion, and the fact we know where the cameras are now.

What about motorways and dual carriageways ( the safest road types)?
If speed kills and they are faster than more people would die on
them... hmm this makes no sense? If speed kills why is it safer
driving at 70mph on the motorway rather than 30 in a busy town?
Something isn't adding up....

Whatever. It is safer when there are agreed limits (whatever they are)
such that we don't have to look out for speeding idiots when wishing to
cross a road or exiting a junction.
