Question for Doug

Author: BrianW
Date: Aug 11, 2008 13:04

Hey Doug,

I have taken your advice and started cycling (rather than driving) to
the station each morning, from where I have a 10 minute train ride to
work. In line with your responses to others who have tried to change
their lifestyles, though, I'm sure I must still be doing something
wrong which negates all my efforts. Are my efforts simply greenwash?

Maybe Doug would say that if your train journey is only 10 minutes, you
should cycle that par of the journey as well. Mind you, a train at maybe 80
mph can cover the distance a hell of a lot quicker than a cyclist at maybe
1-15 mph.

Depends how much you still use your car when you are not working and
whether you will continue cycling in the winter in bad weather.
Presumably the railway station is not all that far away so driving
there might not add much to your annual mileage. Ideally, you should
try leaving your car at home most of the time, if not all the time.

Not at all during the week.

I aim to do so, although it will require considerable willpower ...

About 1.5 miles, so no, it doesn't add much.

But how did the bunting, the band members and the food for the party arrive
in the street? Not by car, I hope... ;-)

Of course not, they were all locally sourced. :-)
