I visit Heathrow Airport regularly and sometimes I see a guy in the car
park, going around and asking driver for a couple of pounds as he has run
out of money to pay for his car parked there. And I have often seen the guy
actually get money from unsuspecting motorists.
Wonder if anyone else has come across this at Heathrow. He must be raking it
in!
Ps. Sorry about the x-post

Plenty of places have beggars using a variation on that theme - last one I
experienced was on the Barcelona Metro (stolen wallet, need money for flight
and so on....)

When I was in The Gambia, some scammer with no legs hobbled up to me on his
stumps and tried to spin me some hard luck story about a wheelchair or
something.

Because they're (almost invariably) scammers?

Perhaps after the beggar bit your hand off you realised he was begging for
food.
