What do you think a cargo boat costs?
The fuel for a lorry from London to Birmingham is currently about
£1/mile I reckon, so £120. Let's say saving £100 against paying four
people for a week. If that's half the cost-saving (the rest being the
capital cost of the lorry/boat) you need to find people who will work
all day and sleep on a boat, for £50 a week. (Buying their own meals, of
course).
The other small matter is the transhipment at each end.
