The only possible interpretation of the concept of ``your job, and
those of your children and grand-children'' is that you believe that
jobs are like furniture, passed from generation to generation. My
paternal grandfather was born to a family of manual labourers. He
wanted nothing more that to escape that, and he wanted nothing but the
best for his children so that they could escape the poverty
--- both
material and cultural --- of his upbringing. The assumption that
people aspire to pass their jobs and culture to their children is
deeply patronising.
