I saw the above on the VMS on a motorway today - with an advisory
speed of forty - never seen one before
It seemed that most drivers were oblivious to the possible
repercussions/potential seriousness.
I moved over to lane one and dropped my speed to forty - much to the
annoyance of the fuckwit lorry driver behind me. He seemed to think
if he flashed his lights and sounded his horn I would speed up.
He was even more pissed off when the recommended speed went to twenty
and so did I. Perhaps he thought that he'd never seen one before
either, so it must be false alarm; I guess it was, as I didn't see
anything amiss until 'End' after a few miles

That's why he got pissed off. Unless it's foggy, you can see far enough
up a motorway to basically ignore these signs and as you found out,
they tend to be left on for no reason. ...

Perhaps you'd like to explain why we have the lowest accident rate per
km driven of any road user type then?

There's only 450,000 HGVs in the UK yet there's 3,000,000 speed tickets
issued a year. It's not us getting the points....

Why, are people regularly driving the wrong way on the motorway?
And why do I need to slow down to 40MPH 3 miles from an incident which
may or may not be there when the traffic is freely flowing and I can
clearly see from over 1/2 a mile away if the traffic ahead is stopped?
