More on perpetual roadbuilding.

For those who doubt that road building/widening is never ending it is
estimated that there are 41 road projects currently in hand in the UK
costing 8.12bn but this attempt to build your way out of congestion is
doomed to failure if hisotry is anything to go by.

Woo. 41 projects...

One of those, I suspect, is the one at the Beaconsfield junction of the
M40 - which is merely rebuilding and extending the roundabout above the
m'way and building a service area. No extra road, no change in the
capacity of the road.

How many are actually taking place at the moment?

In what way is this finite (and rather cheap) series of road projects
"never ending"? The projects each have a fixed completion date and the
majority seem on track to complete within the time alloted. Furthermore
the list is an extremely minor series of works certainly nothing that
counts as "perpetual roadbuilding". You are trying to pass lane changes
and (some) road widening schemese as "roadbuilding" which I suspect most
people would consider to be a term to be applied to the construction of
new roads, not minor improvements to existing roads.

The only project on that list that seems to qualify as "road building"
is the Hindhead tunnel construction and that, due to the whining of the
greenies, was started 20 years later than it should have been.

Oh, and the reference that you cited puts the cost of minor improvements
to three tube lines at £5.5bn.

It's detailed in the PDF that Duhng provided a link to. Starts in 2010.

A lot of the list is future work and the reason that costs are
escalating is because the government hasn't yet let contracts and
estimated prices are rising as the price of fuel rises. Again it's a
demonstration of Duhg's dishonesty.
