Given their apparent disregard for the lives of others I doubt that
the motorists who dominate this trasport newsgroup will loose much
sleep over this.
"Cyclists could die if a new European safety rule for lorries is
delayed by the government, according to cycle safety campaigners.
The EU law stipulates most lorries would need "blind-spot" mirrors,
and was planned to be in force by the end of next March.
But ministers have not yet agreed a timetable for the implementation
of the law, leading the London Cycling Campaign worried the deadline
will be missed.
All Heavy Goods Vehicles registered since 200 will have to be fitted
with the mirrors, which could save up to 1,300 lives across Europe
over the next 14 years.
But campaigners want thousands more lorries registered before 2000 to
be included.
The Department for Transport said many older vehicles would not be
able to carry the weight of the mirrors.
It did say it would ensure those vehicles included in the bill would
comply on time..."

Is there any reason why you seem to think that motorists don't ride bicycles
and cyclists aren't also motorists ?
I await your usual unfounded spout of bullshit.

Quite.
As I read that article, it's basically saying "We could apply this to all
wagons post-2000 now, but the idiot lycra lobby won't let us, as they
insist it's applied to all wagons full stop."
This, of course, ignores the fact that there's very few pre-2000 wagons
in use in London, especially since the LEZ came in a couple of months
ago...
Of course, if fucking idiots didn't cycle up the inside of left-turning
wagons IN THE FIRST PLACE...

Are these going to be like the Euro mirrors fitted to coaches? Since
those were introduced I've become aware of at least three pedestrian
deaths caused by such mirrors. In each case the person in question was
minding their own business and wandering along the pavement when they
were struck in the back of the head by one of the mirrors on a coach.
Death instantaneous in each case as the back of their head was stoved
in.
One death in Winchester, two in Italy. I'm sure there have been many
more.
Yup:

I'm sure there are more.
