One for Duhg and SquashMe.

A banned driver who did not call 999 when his girlfriend was fatally hurt
in a crash has been jailed for life for her manslaughter.

Good.

(Before Duhg starts to whine that car drivers don't care for the victim.)

Doug will whine given the slightest chance, it doesn't matter the cause.

And the report says...
"He must spend four and a half years in jail before he can be considered for
parole."

So much for tougher sentencing :-(

That might be a good start ;-)

This thinking is extant at the BBC I see. Latest press release says Hammond
has made a good recovery and will now be moved closer to home. BBC says
that not only is TG postponed "indefinitely" but also the schedule of "Best
of" will also be cancelled.

Hmm net result of accident.

One presenter injured, has a painful few months, learns big lesson.
To-date, 190,000 pounds raised for charity. This appears to have paid the
cost of recovering Hammond from the wreck nearly 500 times over.

In response to this the witch hunt has started and the hunters appear to
have missed the point that the speed attempt was so well controlled and the
vehicle so well designed that a crash at close to 300 mph allowed Hammond
to walk away from the vehicle.

One may care to compare that with the chances of surviving an accident at
say 85mph in a standard saloon car.
