That came later. First there was car proliferation driving kids off
the streets then more recently the sell off of playing fields, which
have to be reached by road anyway.
There are plenty of historical photographs showing kids playing in
empty streets without a single parked car in sight and hardly any
through traffic. You would be very hard pressed to find a similar
situation today.
