A fantastic troll, or does he really believe the nonsense he writes?
Just wondering...

The latter. Going right back to his demon.loco/demon.service days when
he was as clue resistant as it is possible to be. He loved to pose as an
'expert' in all things IT but stuck his foot in his gob regularly. He
would tackle the people who had set up DI and tell them both how to run
a business and how to configure mail/news. Hence the addition of "the
noid" to the demon.service FAQ.

Thanks Filth ;-) His posts are so bizarre I couldn't be sure. There's some
pretty good trolls around, and his nonsense surpasses most of them, hence my
confusion

Doug is one of those people who would taint any cause that he touched.
He is the Gary Glitter of usenet: it makes you feel dirty even to
mention his name and you certainly wouldn't want to leave your children
with him.

Have wondered that myself, but have come to the conclusion that he
does actually believe the stuff the writes. The same mental process
is going on in his head as goes in fundamentalist religionists' heads
i.e. the abillity to block out anything which conflicts with a set of
narrow and pre-determined beliefs.

Agreed. Yet when you first started posting to uk.transport, you were
one of his supporters. What has changed?

Simple. He is the piece of excrement that attracts people like you to buzz
round him.

Or the demon.local/demon.service "cabal". When one person told him he
was posting with a blatant disregard for netiquette it was
"unrepresentative" and "without authority" even though the person was
citing an RFC. When almost everyone in the group(s) told him the same
thing it was "an unelected and unrepresentative cabal".

I have always wondered where the "cabal" thing came from - is that its
origins? I wonder why he doesn't mention them anymore?
