It looks Doug, as if your wish for higher oil prices will have the opposite
effect to the one you wanted.

As the price goes up so it becomes more economical to extract the "difficult
to get at" fields.

"Oil boom is changing the landscape and finances of North Dakota

Oil prices have to fall much further yet before they take off the shine from
the black gold rush in America's least visited state."

Good news for the poor farmers of Noth Dakota eh Doug?

Rather more importantly going after this oil increases the available
reserves, there is still plenty of oil in the "expended" fields as it was
cheaper to go elsewhere as we gain more experience in extracting hard to get
oil we can revisit the old fields and extract oil at a fraction of the cost
it would have been twenty years back. Probably extending the "out of oil"
point by another 20-50 years.

difficult fields will become non-viable again. All that it means is
that the oil will last a little longer before it runs out and the
benefit is that the cost of wasteful and harmful hypermobility will ...
