"Drivers of 4x4s and other gas-guzzling cars face a £ 2,000 "showroom
tax", according to leaked plans.
The purchase tax may also be imposed on less environmentally
unfriendly cars if the proposal is taken up by ministers.
Only motorists who buy greener electric cars would benefit with a
£2,000 rebate.
Separately, buyers of mid-range family cars could face an extra bill
of hundreds of pounds on their annual road tax bill..."
