7 Ways to Declare Your Energy Independence!

The summer months are upon us. For most American families this means
family vacations, summer sports leagues and barbeques in the back yard
are in full swing. However, with high gas prices, many families are
being forced to cut back on some of these activities. In fact, the
latest trend is "staycations," or vacations taken in your hometown or
nearby. There is relief on the horizon though, if Americans are
willing to fight for it!

What can you do to help? Next time you go to buy a car, truck or SUV,
consider buying a hybrid or flex-fuel vehicle. You can also practice
fuel conservation. Here are some suggestions:

* Take your car in for regular engine tune ups.
* Install new air and fuel filters.
* If you car is renewable fuels compatible, use ethanol-blends like
E85 whenever and wherever possible.
* Drive slower...

Why? My car uses more fuel at 55 than 80, and I have the data logs to prove
it.

Wher can I buy a car such as yours, which is apparently immune to the Laws
of Physics?

At 55mph 'my' car will be revving at around 3000 rpm in fourth gear. At
80mph it will be revving at about 2300 rpm in fifth+overdrive. It will
probably not be doing measurably better for mpg because it has the
aerodynamics of a brick. However a vehicle with similar gearing,
automatic box and a lower drag shape could conceivably do better at 80
than at 55.

What car is it that does this?

I'm highly sceptical

I don't deny the possibility for a large petrol engined car with a
conventional automatic box, but I'd be interested in the logs anyway.

I have no idea how someone's car can be more efficient at 80 than at
55. I'm not saying it's impossible, rather it's very unlikely
assuming that the car is being driven in the same gear at each speed.
Air resistance plays a very big factor at higher speeds with the
resistance increasing exponentially (not linearly) with speed. For
anyone with a modest background in physics,iIt doesn't take much
figuring out that the fuel consumption will increase with vehicle
speed with the proviso that the same transmission ratio is used.

Obviously, it isn't, hence 55 (mph) and conventional auto.
