Even "post Soviet", it was frowned upon... I raised the eyebrows of
our Intourist guide in mid-1991 when I climbed the overbridge at
Ulan-Ude in the Buryat Republic, just east of Lake Baikal, to take a
pic of the "Rossiya"/Trans-Siberian.
