Hmm! Seems there is someone in the government who doesn't like cars
and who can blame them and it implies that cars are not as
environmentally friendly as PT, but we knew that already didn't we.
"At least one worker per household in new eco-towns should be able to
get to their job by walking, cycling or using public transport,
according to plans outlined by the Government today.
Proposals for standards that the environmentally-friendly settlements
will be expected to meet also include ensuring that half of all
journeys made by residents can be done so sustainably..."

Yet they are building them in places where there is no public transport ,
and anyway it says "be able to...."
Not "will have to..." so it's pointless

No , we don't.
What we know for sure is that buses and trains have to run around
empty to fulfill their timetable. Whereas when no-one is travelling
my car is parked up on the drive.

And IF Doug suggested that senior citizens should work for some "green"
reason you'd be on his back straight away.
Down here Ford was supposed to be a green "new" town, no public transport
planned , on a flood plain (that was flooded a few weeks ago) VERY
limited parking - sounds luverly don't it?
