Families face Bank Holiday travel chaos due to maintenance on road and rail

Oh dear! The penalties for hypermobility. 55,000 breakdowns too! Makes
you wonder about car reliability doesn't it.

"Drivers were last night warned to expect delays across the country
over the bank holiday weekend.

Up to 18million vehicles are forecast to take to the roads from today
until Tuesday.

The AA said the extra traffic will cause congestion on the M25, M1,
M11 and the M4. It said the M5 in the west country, the M6 around
Birmingham and the M8 around Glasgow would also be slow.

The motoring organisation expects to deal with up to 55,000 breakdowns
over the weekend.

It said the average distance covered in bank holiday journeys was 135
miles.

Shorter journeys will clog roads around DIY stores and more than 80
per cent of homeowners plan to visit one of the outlets over the short
break, according to the RAC..."

I make that 1 in every 327 cars will break down in just the three days
of the holiday. Not very good is it. I wonder if yours will be one of
them.

It is excellent. Even as an ardent supporter of rail, I have to admit
that at least 10%% of journeys get disrupted in some way. As regards
flights, I don't know the stats but I suspect it is even higher. Only
0.3%% of cars suffering breakdowns sounds rather good to me.

No, makes you wonder where they dreamt that ridiculous figure up from. But,
of course, gullible pillocks like you like to believe them.

Try some original thought, Doug. You trot this one out every bank holiday,
whether justified or not.

And use a dictionary to understand the meaning of the word hypermobility. I
didn't think getting stuck in traffic was related in any way to a high level
of flexibility in the joints and tendons.

No because it's parked up, thanks.

Not really. It's an estimated figure.

55,000 (assuming it actually reaches that level) out of 18 million is
under 0.3%%. About 100th the failure rate of the Xbox 360.

I don't live there so I don't care.

BTW, why does it only apply to families (see headline)? So, if I drive on my
own somewhere this weekend, I'll be fine, obviously.

Did I mention how crap I think the journalism is in the DW?

Fair odds, I reckon. :-) Odd how Dougs own post shoots his own post down
in flames as being anything other than a minor inconvenience in the scale of
things. You'd think he might read, digest, understand and then decide not
to nother posting shite, but hey-ho, it's his waste of energy, time and
life.

We're actually going away this weekend, to Bridlington on the East Coast and
the eldest is staying at home to look after things, so we might stay a full
week or two, not sure yet . Youngest son turns into a teenager on Sunday,
and we're taking some of his mates with us, so a full car as usual then,
though they have to be home by Monday evening.

Which will leave us with some quality time alone ..... for the first time in
goodness only knows how many years. I intend to laze away and enjoy it, so
have fun all of you and play nicely. :-)

I'll wave as you drive past...

If you see a red Capper driving around Brid this next week, gimme a
wave.
