Oh dear! More energy wastage associated with drivers. Still, I suppose
they are not to blame with this one.
"Drivers usually appreciate a little extra illumination when making
their way home in winter.
Not many, however, would see the point in lighting up a motorway in
broad daylight.
Yet that is exactly what has been happening on a one-mile stretch of
the M40 after a set of sensors went wrong..."

Not transport related.
Instead of trawling tabloid websites why aren't you getting the report on
Vince's house move finished?

Why don't you shine a light on the reason you still hold a drivers
licence?

I think that in Doug's case, "there's a light on but nobody's in" is the
appropriate phrase.

However, my local council is considering switching the street lights out
after a certain time each night . No doubt driven by an effort to
save money on it's power bills rather than any environmental thing
despite what the press spin will say should they decide to pursue the idea.

Getting it on to a transport topic, he's like the Marie Celeste, all sails
set but no one on board.

There's no reason for any of the UK motorway network to be lit at all.
Cars have headlights, signs are illuminated. It seems to be a
Southerner issue. Further south you get, the more lit up the motorways...
