Driver reverses through shopfront

Motorists don't just kill people, they drive on pavements and damage
property too. Note the apparent concern for the driver (lucky escape?)
but not for the shop workers.

"A driver had a lucky escape after reversing through the front of a
funeral parlour today.

Shocked workers ran from the strip of shops in Stonecot Hill shortly
before 5pm today when the woman reversed her car in to the front of
John Knox Funeral Directors.

Carol Gipps, from the company, said the business had sold the property
three weeks ago and were to hand over the keys today.

Ms Gipps was in the back of the shop when she heard what she though
was breaking crockery.

"It's an absolute nightmare," she said.

She said the sale was expected to still go through..."

And ... ? I fail to see any point except that a search of news reports had
the word "driver" or "car" in it.

All sorts of people do all sorts of dumb things, whether it's with a
bicycle, a Stanley knife, a needle, a large rock, their own head ...

Probably because none of the shop workers were at any risk. The car hit a
shop that was in the process of being sold and, while there was someone in
the back, the shop was empty. The closest any shop worker came to danger was
when the occupants of the shop next door were inadvisably told to 'run out'
instead of carrying out a controlled evacuation of the building.

Yet another car thread Doug?

What shop workers would they be?

They do indeed.

However, it is not just motorists, if you search the archives for
the early days of the re-introduced trams in San Diego then you
should find a photograph of a tram embedded in the front of a shop.
IIRC a laundry operated by a family of Chinese extraction.

Which general principle do you believe is proven by this seemingly
random story?

It's terrible the way immigrants can be so poor that they end up buying a
shop with tramlines through it.

Indeed.

Here's a photograph of a cyclist blocking a pavement.
