The motorists who dominate and infest this transport newsgroup and
hate cyclists will really revel this one. They will be overjoyed. And
guess who they will blame.
"A cyclist hit and killed a young pedestrian after calling out 'Move,
because I'm not stopping,' a court heard yesterday.
Rhiannon Bennett, 17, was walking to a shop with friends when Jason
Howard, 36, rode towards the group.
He is said to have knocked her over and she hit her head, suffering
fatal injuries. She was taken to hospital, but never regained
consciousness and died six days later..."
"...Howard denies a charge of dangerous cycling. If he were to be
convicted he could only be fined a maximum of £2,000..."
'Dangerous cycling'? Is there such a charge or do they just make them
up as they go along?

You seem to be the only person on here who takes pleasure in a young person
dying needlessly.

So, who do you hold to blame for the crash - the cyclist who ploughed into a
group of pedestrians, or the pedestrian who was walking along the pavement,
which it was illegal for the cyclist to be on?
BTW, this has already been covered in another thread.

As one might expect with the Daily Wail, the headline bears little
relationship to the contents of the story
"Howard, of Buckingham, was travelling at between 23mph and 17mph
down the road and was captured on CCTV,"
Note the statement that he was cycling on the road.
"Gerald Collins, prosecuting, said: 'As he approached he shouted at
them to move out of the way. He could have moved to the other side
of the road or similarly, applied the brakes."
Note the statement that he was cycling on the road. No statement
about riding on the pavement.
"'The defendant's bicycle collided with Rhiannon. Her head struck
the defendant and the force pitched her straight back onto her back.
Her head struck the pavement.'"
In other words she was on the road and was thrown back by the force
of the crash with her head ending up on the pavement.

No, I want him to be explicit about who he thinks was at fault, and what
an appropriate charge would be if it were the cyclist - and if the
pedestrian, why.
