Frankly, I don't care what price diesel or petrol is, I still need to buy
and use it as an inherent part of my businesses. All it will do is force my
prices up and/or profit margins down.

What if it forces profit margins down to an unsustainable level? Would
you be able to adapt? Also, would you reduce your non-work related
travel?

Then we diversify again, or do something completely different. Until that
time, which is far off, we carry on.

This is the thing, Doug. When it gets to the point that enough hauliers
and businesses have gone to the wall because of it and enough people
have had to stop working because they can't afford the travel, what do
you think is likely to happen?
Big massive recession. And what's one of the things that gets cut when
there's a recession? Social Security Benefits - at the very same time
prices are going through the roof.
So if I were you Doug, I'd be praying it doesn't get to that level.

I wish hauliers wouldn't do that. It is never much of the total and seems to
be more of a political statement than anything. However, it still usually
needs to be allocated to more than one accounting category, which is a
time-consuming nuisance. I would much prefer it to be incorporated into the
price. I don't put things like a stainless steel surcharge on my prices.
