I have parked in central London before and since the "congestion" taz
was introduced (at the expense of my employer, of course). I'm fairly
sure I was also able to park in Denmark Street long enough to get some
business done, for a quid or so. Not ideal, I agree, but better than £1
+ £8.

A. He is talking of reducing the hours of operation such that the income
will reduce very significantly - and ought to get the credit for that.
Longer term, the contract with the current operators will expire.

B. Just like the money for better aeroplanes, cars, lorries and vans
comes from those who use them, the money for "better" buses should come
from those who use them. In fact, I'm sure it already does - I pay £3.50
for a ticket for a simple short return journey by bus in C London (and I
only do that because the particular journey I make is conveniently served).
