Come get your airport, genuine reason for sale.

Date: Aug 20, 2008 04:25

So is the enforced sale of airports by BAA a good thing? Will it bring prices
down thanks to increased competition? Will it be a case of reduced efficiency
and increased redundancy? Will the big injection of cash pay for a bigger
better Heathrow? About the only thing we can know is it's going to be a long
haul before any deals are finalised.

Most likely whatever BAA are forced to sell will be bought by another
multiple airport owner who won't modernise it and so the situation will
remain as it is.

It is already being suggested that selling Gatwick ought to get it its
second runway. While BAA signed an agreement not to build one, it appears
there are doubts as to whether that will be binding on another owner.
