Climate Change...why bother?

An excellent article in the NYT which basically is saying it's too late
anyway and WTF is the point when someone in China is going to just go
and do the very things you've just stopped doing?

I've often said all the so-called measures we are taking are simply pissing
in the wind and making no difference to the perceived problem. A few TVs
left on standby is going to make bugger all difference, and don't get me
started on the political grandstanding around supermarket carrier bags.

So when was the split second that we could do something.

In the case of the New York Times, probably yes. They have a reputation for
meticulous fact checking before running a story, unlike most of the British
meeja. The once august Wall Street Journal, however, is now owned by
Murdoch - say no more.

Yes, a thought-provoking article.

What is the consensus amongst climate experts about the amount that we as
humans can do to alter climate change? To what extent is the current climate
change a natural phenomenon of the sort that has affected the earth for
millions of years and to what extent do the things that we do affect the
climate? Is there actually any point in everyone on the planet enduring the
hardship of all the sacrifices that we are urged to make - will this have a
*measureable* effect?

According to the most recent computer model, produce by the Met Office a few
months ago and the only one accurately to aftercast the effects of el Nino,
nothing we can do will have any effect on climate change in the predictable
future.

The last 12 months has been a period of unusually low solar activity and the
average global temperatures have dropped as much in that 12 months as they
rose in the past century. It is probably a temporary blip in the figures,
but is a strong indicator that the sun is a far greater driver of climate
change than anything man can do.

Very little, if anything we do will alter it measurably. (with any
reliability or accuracy)

Any excuse to do nothing and carry on consuming as much as usual, eh,
if not more?
